Frontiers

At Frontiers, the mission to empower society through open science translates into a design culture that balances structure and flexibility, speed and quality, collaboration and innovation.

ART DIRECTION
DESIGN LEADERSHIP
DESIGN INNOVATION

Since 2021, I have played a key role in evolving the Frontiers corporate image, contributing both strategically and hands-on across digital, print, and experiential touchpoints. My focus has been on building scalable systems, leading processes, and innovating workflows that allow design to operate efficiently within a fast-paced, research-driven environment.

As a team lead, I have guided designers across brand and outreach verticals, driving cross-collaboration and process improvements. My work includes art-directing a new illustration style for Frontiers for Young Minds with FourPlus, designing and automating the annual Impact Campaign system, overseeing flagship editorial products such as Frontiers in Science, and contributing to globally relevant live events including the Science House at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Frontiers Planet Prize, and the Frontiers Forum.

Below, you can read an overview of my most impactful contributions at Frontiers. For an overview of all projects, you can also check out Frontiers Design Behance page.

Automating digital design for quality and efficiency:Frontiers impact metrics campaign

+ Art direction, leadership, design innovation

Over the past four years, I have led the design and production of the annual Impact Campaign: a large-scale, data-driven communication campaign involving our +250 journals and aimed at leveraging brand awareness and drive submissions.

The core challenge is speed and quality at scale: when data is released, thousands of assets must be produced and distributed within 24-48 hours. To address this, I have designed and refined an end-to-end automated production system that aligns digital marketing optimisation, brand consistency, and evolving technology.

The process begins with structured spreadsheets, where the brand and data teams input final numbers and copy. But how does it become a final design?

Through a combination of Excel, Figma component libraries, and automation plugins, this data is dynamically applied to pre-curated design templatesto generate over 2,000 assets with maximum efficiency and minimal manual intervention.

Beyond the system itself, I lead the project with my sub-team: coordinating timelines, aligning stakeholders and approval rounds, and art-directing a refreshed creative concept each year, including defining storyboards for the motion team as part of the design proposal.

Thanks to months of preparation and fine-tuning, the full campaign rollout, from data release to final delivery, is completed within 24 hours. All assets are then organized into structured toolkits for Confluence and distributed through curated Digital Asset Management collections, ensuring clarity, reusability, and long-term scalability.

From digital to live action:
Frontiers world-class live events

+ Art direction, spatial design, project management

Live events are a key expression of the Frontiers brand, translating research and policy into high-impact, real-world experiences. To mention some:

Frontiers Forum Live 2023 – Montreux, Switzerland
Flagship global forum connecting scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders.

Frontiers Planet Prize 2023–2026 – Vilars, Switzerland
Multi-year international prize celebrating breakthrough research in planetary health.

Frontiers Science House – World Economic Forum 2026 Davos, Switzerland
Immersive pop-up space translating science for global decision-makers.

During my time at Frontiers I have contributed to and led the design delivery of multiple large-scale international events, working across digital, print, motion, and spatial design in close collaboration with senior leadership and a broad network of internal and external stakeholders.

These projects typically include a dedicated event identity, digital registration platforms, global digital marketing campaigns (social and Google Ads), video content and storyboarding, immersive spaces, and a wide range of print and on-site materials. A critical component is the full redesign of presentation decks for scientists and global leaders — ensuring clarity and consistency for speakers including Nobel Prize winners, lead researchers, and figures such as Al Gore and Ban Ki-moon.

I often act as the connective layer between leadership, designers, motion teams, scientists, and external partners. While curating the digital experience, I also support overall creative direction and print execution. To manage scale and complexity, I help structure workflows and project management systems (including Jira boards, speaker guidelines, and reusable templates) enabling us to track high volumes of presentation updates, streamline feedback, and deliver under tight deadlines. On selected occasions, I have also contributed as a photographer for internal events.
